most searched summer destinations for 2025 (1)

Are you aimlessly searching flights from the USA to anywhere on Skyscanner? Well, I’m right in the trenches with you. With summer here, I’m itching to escape LA and wander around sun-drenched cities in Europe with an endless flow of Aperol Spritz and tapas.

…The only problem? Too many options.

To help you out (and myself), I decided to dig into data from Delta Airlines and Booking.com and see which travel destinations are trending for summer 2025. While the usual suspects like London and Paris are on the list, there are a bunch of new and exciting places I haven’t heard of that have officially found their way onto my bucket list.

Without further ado, here are some of the most searched summer destinations and why these spots are topping everyone’s wish lists.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is a dream destination for solo travelers, foodies, anime lovers, and tech-obsessed adventurers. Whether you’re hopping between izakayas, spending hours in themed cafes, or seeking out the peaceful contrast of temples and traditional gardens, Tokyo offers a full-spectrum experience.

With a 54% increase in searches compared to last year (according to Delta), Tokyo is back in the spotlight and thriving. The city jumped from #7 to #6 on Delta’s most searched destinations list, showing a surge in interest from travelers who want to experience Japan’s eclectic culture.

Add in the weak yen making travel more affordable from America, and you’ve got the perfect storm to finally tick Japan off your list and see for yourself what all the fuss is about.

Best for: Solo travelers, foodies, and culture seekers.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon has officially joined the big leagues. For the first time ever, it cracked the top 10 in Delta’s most searched destinations, overtaking Vancouver with a 6.5% increase in searches since summer 2024.

And it’s easy to see why. Lisbon hits that sweet spot of sun, surf, and soul with an incredible food scene, gorgeous architecture, and a nightlife scene that doesn’t quit.

As the gateway to day trips like Sintra, Cascais, and the vineyards of Setúbal, Lisbon gives you a full summer experience for anyone who wants beach, good wine, and city vibes in one.

…And if you fall in love with the city? Portugal has a digital nomad visa, giving you the perfect excuse to extend your summer break and really get to experience the city like a local.

Best for: Digital nomads, slow travelers, foodies, and couples who want a romantic (but not cliché) escape.

Hurghada, Egypt

Family travel is making a big comeback in 2025, and Hurghada is leading the way. Booking.com found that 53% of parents have made travel a top priority for the year, and 85% want trips that expose their kids to different cultures and experiences.

And Hurghada, Egypt? The city ticks all those boxes.

Set along Egypt’s Red Sea coast, this resort town blends beach bliss with easy access to adventure and history. Think snorkeling with technicolor fish, exploring desert dunes on camelback, and day trips to Luxor’s temples. It’s a sun-soaked, budget-friendly alternative to pricier Mediterranean hotspots without sacrificing the wow factor.

Hurghada’s all-inclusive resorts make logistics easy for parents, while cultural excursions keep your kids entertained and away from the poolside iPad. Come here for a family vacation that’s different, fun, affordable, and educational.

Best for: Families with school-aged kids, multigenerational travel groups, and culture-curious travelers who still want sun and sea.

Ayia Napa, Cyprus

Group travel continues to surge in 2025, with 1 in 5 travelers planning trips with friends, and 33% of Gen Z prioritizing shared experiences over solo escapes (according to Booking.com).

Where should you go with your friends this summer? Ayia Napa in Cyprus is the Mediterranean party-meets-nature gem that’s quickly becoming a Gen Z favorite.

Yes, it’s got the beach clubs, boat parties, and booming nightlife. But Ayia Napa isn’t just about drinking until dawn; it’s also home to some of Cyprus’s best natural beauty, from the crystal-clear waters of Nissi Beach to Cape Greco’s sea caves and national park.

Its dual personality is exactly what makes it so appealing for friend groups. There’s something for the early risers, the night owls, and everyone in between. And with 36% of Gen Z prioritizing outdoor activities like stargazing, hiking, and nature-based adventures, Ayia Napa’s rugged cliffs and scenic hikes are the perfect counterbalance to the chaos.

Best for: Gen Z travelers, friend groups, partygoers with a love for nature, and first-time Eurotrippers.

Milan, Italy

While cities like Venice and Florence remain ever-popular with couples, Milan is increasingly drawing travelers who want history and high heels, with a side of architectural drama.

According to Booking.com, Milan is a top romantic destination this summer, but the real charm may lie in what’s nearby. Travelers are being encouraged to go beyond the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and explore hidden gems like Trieste (on Italy’s northeastern coast) and Villajoyosa (near Alicante in Spain) for a more peaceful and affordable romantic escape.

This trend reflects a growing desire for meaningful, less crowded travel. Think canal-side strolls in lesser-known towns, wine-tasting without the tourist stampede, and a little La Dolce Vita.

Best for: Couples, stylish slow travelers, and second-time Italy visitors who want something new.

Alicante, Spain

Like Milan, Alicante is part of Booking.com’s top romantic summer destinations list, but its charm lies in sunshine, sea views, and that laid-back Spanish rhythm.

Alicante is often overshadowed by cities like Barcelona or Madrid, but travelers are waking up to its Mediterranean magic. With its palm-lined promenade, historic castle views, and easy access to the lesser-known but stunning Villajoyosa, Alicante is a romantic destination that feels authentic and off the beaten path.

It’s especially great for couples who want to mix culture with coast, and who are craving a summer getaway without throngs of other tourists around. Whether you’re clinking sangria glasses at a seaside café or hiking up to Santa Bárbara Castle for golden hour, Alicante’s romance is real and affordable.

Best for: Couples, off-the-beaten-path lovers, and travelers seeking low-key luxury.

Honolulu, Hawaii

When it comes to U.S. travel, Honolulu continues to reign, especially for travelers looking to stay domestic while still escaping to paradise. Delta lists it as one of the most searched domestic destinations for summer 2025, and honestly? It makes sense.

Hawaii’s capital city blends beach life, culture, and outdoor adventure in one neat (tropical) package. It’s ideal for honeymooners, solo travelers, and families alike, offering everything from surf lessons and poke bowls to volcano hikes and historic tours of Pearl Harbor.

And with travelers still seeking a sense of escapism, Honolulu delivers that “world away” feeling without needing a passport. It’s also LGBTQ+ friendly, which makes it a popular choice for Pride-month getaways.

Best for: Couples, families, solo travelers, and anyone craving that West Coast to island pipeline.
